Winter Walking
Hill walking in winter is both highly rewarding and challenging. The short winter days and harsher, more variable conditions, demand much more in terms of organisation, planning, area selection and personal determination than is required in summer. Snowdonia Climbing offers Essential Winter Walking Skills courses as well as Guided Winter Walking.
Published courses will take place in Snowdonia though can also be conducted in Scotland on request.
Snowdonia Climbing does not offer winter climbing courses though for such activities recommends Ian Whitehead (MIC) at High Trek.
Essential Winter Walking Skills These 2-day courses provide the experienced summer hill walker with the skills to make a safe transition to winter hill walking. These courses are conducted in Snowdonia and cover self belay, ice axe arrest, boot, crampon and axe skills, avalanche awareness, winter weather, winter clothing and equipment as well as emergency shelters and procedures.
2-day course - £160 per person
Guided Winter Walking 5 days of guided winter walking on the hills and mountains of Snowdonia. Basic skills such as self arrest and ice axe arrest will also be taught though the emphasis will be on completing classic winter itineraries.
5-days guided walking - £350 per person
